Why Should I Care?
Nerve cells in your brain get their oxygen and nutrients from water and get rid of their waste through water. In fact, nerve cells are mostly made out of water. Drinking plenty of water therefore keeps the nerve cells in your brain healthy and stable, which helps avoid migraine storm conditions! Drinking plenty of water also helps prevent headaches from being brought on by temperature changes and stress by keeping the systems of your body working at their best. What's your excuse?
I already drink enough water.
Is your pee clear? If so, you are probably doing a good job staying hydrated – if it’s usually dark yellow instead, you are not getting enough water! Other signs of not getting enough water include headaches, dizziness/light-headedness, poor concentration, dry lips, skin problems, feeling really tired a lot, feeling sick to your stomach, and constipation.
I hate the taste of water.
Then try changing the taste, but do it naturally! Put some fresh lemon or lime slices, cucumber slices, fresh herbs (such as peppermint), or a natural plant sweetener (e.g., Stevia) into your water. Avoid adding any artificial sweeteners or flavors, since these may make headaches worse!
I’m allergic to water.
That’s doubtful — aquagenic urticarial (water allergy) is extremely rare and causes a painful skin rash. You probably mean you don’t like the taste of water or you gag when you drink it — see the response to “I hate the taste of water”!
I get enough water from pop and juice.
No you don’t.
I’m forgetful.
What was your question again?!... A good strategy is to keep a water bottle with you that holds the minimum amount of water you need for the day and sip it all day long – just don’t forget the water bottle!
